Justice United is excited to announce that our parent network, Metro IAF, has pledged to match every new AND increased recurring donation that Justice United receives this year, doubling your investment! 

Thanks to the success of our fundraising campaign, we've been able to hire a new organizer! We are thrilled to welcome Shereese Alston. Shereese is focused on affordable housing, especially property tax justice and preserving existing affordable housing.

Our goal is continue to fund this position, so that we can:

  • Advance our campaigns
  • Train more leaders
  • Support stronger core teams within organizations
  • Recruit new groups to join Justice United to diversify and strengthen our membership, so that we can more fully represent our community.

Our Track Record for Change

Individual donors like you have sustained our work to win recent local change on:

Mental Health: 

$3.3 million for mental health
services to address racial, language, cultural, & income disparities in mental health access.

Our initial 2022-2023 win with El Futuro was so successful, the funding was doubled! Then the NC Dept. of Health & Human Services adopted the program as a statewide model for all groups facing barriers to care.

Affordable Housing:

  • $1.6 million+ to preserve existing affordable housing
    for homeowners to keep their homes, via home repairs funding and a property tax relief program that’s the strongest in the state. 
  • Reentry Housing: Launch of Orange County and Alliance Health’s formal search for property and funds for housing people leaving incarceration, institutional settings, and/or homelessness.
  • Zoning permit approved for St. Paul Village's 350+ affordable and workforce housing and mixed use development

Healthcare Access:

Medicaid enrollment sessions in rural Orange County + UNC Hospital’s Director of Financial Assistance working with us to remove barriers facing uninsured/underinsured patients.

Immigrant Rights:

  • Immigration attorney clinic provided free legal consultation to 75+ community members.
  • Commitments from public officials to protection from searches/seizures without a judicial warrant – on public property/in public interactions. 
  • Team formed to address school bullying.

Criminal Justice:

  • Commitments from District Attorney Jeff Nieman to make diversion options for mental health and substance use support “the rule,” and data tracking for racial disparities.
